GENERAL

 

RALLY:  Come out and show your school pride on September 5th.  Canyon’s first RALLY is during brunch on Friday in the Main Gym.  Support your class by wearing your class color:  Seniors-Black, Juniors-Green, Sophomores-White and Freshman-Yellow. 

 

CANYON FOOTBALL GAMES:  A reminder to students that once you enter the football game and leave—YOU MAY NOT RE-ENTER!  If you need a sweater, blanket etc., remember to bring it in with you when you arrive.  Also, skateboards and scooters are NOT allowed in the stadium parking lot—DO NOT BRING THEM WITH YOU!!!  Since this is a school-sponsored event, the Canyon High Dress Code will be strictly enforced.  ANY inappropriate attire (clothing, accessories, or headgear) will result in entrance refusal and possible removal if non=compliant.

 

COC CLASSES: Did you take a class at COC during the summer or even last spring?  It is the student's responsibility to request that the transcript from COC is sent to Canyon's Registrar. You can order them online from COC's website today!

 

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: Have you had problems writing essays in the past? Are you having problems writing them now? Do you need help writing that college essay? If you answered yes to any of these questions, there is a place you can get help. Come to Writer's Workshop with Mr. Fannon in C-1 every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before school and at lunch for all your writing and English needs.

 

BEACH BUM DAY:  This Thursday, September 4 is Beach Bum Day!  Come to school dressed in your favorite beach day clothes and get ready for fun beach games on the Outdoor Stage!  Of course SCHOOL DRESS CODE still applies!!!

 

KEY CLUB EXTRA HOURS:  Key clubbers, if you need extra hours, there is a canned food drive.  Bring 5 cans for one-hour credit, there is a three-hour max.  Please bring all cans to V-1.

 

ADULT AND YOUTH ASB CARDS ARE HERE!!!!! Come pick up your parents ASB cards in the ASB office, J-7

 

OPERATION US:  Are you interested in bettering your community?  Do you appreciate diversity, like working with elementary school students, leading small group discussions and/or being on stage?  Operation US is a community service club at Canyon that conducts workshops to promote respect, tolerance and diversity at local elementary schools.  We may even go to your old elementary school! If you would like to participate, or learn more about Operation US, please come to a meeting at lunch in E3 on Wednesday September 3rd, or see Ms. Mast or Mr. Ballard for details.  Everyone is welcome. 

 

ATTENTION: OFL (Opportunities for Learning) will NOT be open for winter or spring sessions, so if you were counting on earning credits at OFL, please see your counselor ASAP to plan another way to make up credits.

 

IMPROV TEAM TRYOUTS: For all those interested in being a part of Canyon High's Improv Team, auditions will be held on Tuesday September 2nd from 2-4 PM. If you have a 7th period, come by at 3 PM. See Ms. K in the Q-Theatre for more details.

 

ALL STUDENTS:  If you have not had an ID card made for this year please come to the textbook center during brunch or lunch to have one made.  Remember all students must have an ID card.

 

ATTENTION ALL CSF MEMBERS: or anyone interested in joining the California Scholarship Federation. Come to room C-8 all this week to pick up your paperwork. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Freifeld in room C-8. Applications will be due by Wednesday, September 3rd.

 

ALL STUDENTS WHO HAVE AN OPEN PERIOD, ROTC or a COC CLASS:  You will need to have an open sticker placed on your ID to leave campus if you have an abbreviated schedule.  Please leave your ID with the campus supervisor as you leave campus using the following guidelines.  The next day, you will need to pick up your ID on the south side of the new administration building (just outside the Counseling entrance) during brunch or lunch.  Remember, you must have your ID card with you while at school every day as well as during school activities! 

Tuesday, September 2       Makeups

 

REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS:  Textbook damage forms are due back to the textbook center by Sept. 5th.  If you have lost the form you received at registration come to the textbook center to get another.

 

CAREER CENTER NEWS

UC MERCED VISITATION:  Juniors and seniors are invited to our first college visitation of the year on Friday, 9/5 at 10:35 in the Career Center.  Meet with an admissions representative from UC Merced and learn about programs, campus life, admissions and more!  Pick up permission slips in the Career Center.

 

MEETINGS

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY: Come to C7 at lunch on Wednesday to find out who the new cabinet members are. Also, if you are interested in joining, please stop by for information!

 

KEY CLUB:  Hey Key clubbers!!!  The first general meeting is on September 3 at lunch in the gym.  New members are welcome!!!

 

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY:  Attention students-- if you are interested in becoming a Spanish Honor Society member-- please come to our first meeting TODAY at lunch in room D-2.  Remember you must be a current or prior student in Spanish 3 or AP Spanish class.

 

SPORTS

BOYS SOCCER TRYOUTS:  Tryouts are at lunch on the football field.  Tryouts will run all week—September 2-5.  Questions—see Coach Savage in room F-1.
