Career preparation and success takes planning! The Career Center, which is located in H Building, houses many useful tools to assist students in uncovering possibilities that they may not have considered. College catalogs, vocational school catalogs, career guides, reference material, SAT study guides and more are available to assist our students in their college and career search journey. Click here to access a list of sites. The Choices Career Interest Survey is administered to sophomore students each fall. After taking the survey, students identify careers of interest and are encouraged to stop by the Career Center to further explore their career choice as well as college options. In addition, we subscribe to the Bridges Career Program, which offers a variety of career and college exploration resources. An interest search is available to assist students with identifying career interest areas and students and parents can utilize a database of colleges and scholarship information. The web address and password are available in the Career Center. Monthly Career Seminars provide an excellent career exploration vehicle for students to investigate a variety of careers each year. Guest speakers are invited to meet with students. They discuss career topics such as educational requirements, salary ranges, working conditions and job outlook. The seminars are open to students in all grade levels and permission slips are available in the Career Center. Check out the link page to learn more about upcoming Career Seminars! The fall semester is a very exciting time in the Career Center. Representatives from approximately 20 colleges schedule visitations to our campus. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to stop by the Counseling Office or Career Center to review a list of upcoming college visitations. This list is updated weekly. Students may pick up permission slips in the Career Center. The Wm. S. Hart Regional Occupational Program (ROP) offers employment training courses to high school students and adults. These courses provide the students knowledge in many different occupations. Over 40 courses are currently offered. To view a list of ROP courses click here. In addition, students can participate in job shadowing activities to investigate careers from a “hands-on” perspective. Job shadowing information is available in the Career Center or by going to your link here. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the many visitations, seminars, and resource tools available in the Career Center! |
