GENERAL

 

AP STUDENTS:  The window to buy AP exams will be March 2 – March 13.  Your AP packet has been given to the first AP teacher of your schedule this semester.  If your only AP class was AP Government last semester, please come to the Counseling Office to pick up your packet. You can purchase your tests at the ASB window once all the forms are completed.  PLEASE NOTE, NO TESTS WILL BE SOLD AFTER MARCH 13 AT 1:00 p.m.

 

ROP COSMETOLOGY:  There will be a Cosmetology information meeting for students interested in the ROP Cosmetology program on Friday, March 6 in H1 at 12:30 p.m.  Program details and requirements will be presented and applications will be made available at that time.  We look forward to seeing you there!

NEED A JOB FOR THE SUMMER? Attend the SCV Summer Job Fair Saturday, March 7th, 2015.  The fair will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Santa Clarita Activities Center, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.  Job applicants must be 16 years of age or older at time of application.

 

ATTENTION 10th and 11th GRADERS!  Are you taking the SAT on May 2?  If so, Tier One Tutors will be offering a series of prep classes to help you succeed on the SAT.  The classes start March 18 and will meet at Canyon High School.  The cost is only $95.  If you are interested, please visit the Counseling Office to pick up a flyer.

 

COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS- Careers on the Go Workshop - Great way for students to find out information directly from professionals in the industry. Hotel and Restaurant ManagementThursday, March 5, 20156:00PM-7:30PM -  Valencia Campus - Mentry Hall Room 343. Free and Open to the public!!!

 

SIGNUPS for 3 on 3 intramural basketball and 6 on 6 soccer will take place this week. All skill levels are welcome!  Sign-up in C-5 at both brunches and lunch.

 

MEETINGS

 

SOS members: due to the minimum day, the yearbook picture has been changed to Friday.  Come to room G217 at lunch on Friday to be included in the Support Our Soldiers yearbook photo.

 

THE CANYON ROLEPLAYING CLUB will be meeting in room K-3 from 3 to 7 pm on Friday March 6th

to play the Pathfinder Roleplaying game.  New players are welcome!

GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENT ORDERS ARE HERE!  Jostens will be on campus “ONE DAY ONLY” to deliver your graduation announcement order.  Pick up is TODAY at brunch on the Outdoor Stage.  If you have a balance due, it must be paid on this day in CASH ONLY.  Please be on time to avoid shipping fees.  If you still need to order Graduation memorabilia, please visit www.jostens.com to place your order.  Time is running out.

 

 

 

 

The ZONTA CLUB OF SCV will award one senior girl a $1,000 Scholarship to an applicant who demonstrates: Active Commitment to Volunteerism, experience in local or student government, leadership achievements, knowledge of Zonta International and its programs, and advocates for Zonta International’s mission to advance the status of women worldwide.  If this sounds like YOU, please visit www.zonta.org.  Club deadline is March 14, 2015.

 

THE SANTA CLARITA VALLEY EDUCATION FOUNDATION will award up to $10,000 in scholarship funds to local graduating seniors interested in pursuing a career related to education.  Visit www.scveducationfoundation.org/scholarships for the application.  Completed applications are due March 13, 2015.

 

SENIORS:  IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR FAFSA, do not forget to stop by the Counseling Office and show your counselor the confirmation email.  You have until Friday, March 6 to sign up for the $500 FAFSA Scholarship.

Once you have filled out the FAFSA, you should receive a Student Aid Report.  This report is a summary of the information you provided the government on the FAFSA.  If there are any mistakes or missing information, you will receive an email or letter to make the changes.  If everything is correct, there will be a link to confirm that your FAFSA is complete and correct.  Once you confirm, your SAR will be sent to all the schools you listed on your FAFSA.  Schools will then use this information to send you a financial award package.  If you do not receive a Student Aid Report in the next two weeks, please call FAFSA at 1-800-4-FEDAID.

 

SPEECH SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION:  The Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association is offering three scholarships ($1,000, $750 and $500) to the winning seniors who enter the speech competition. The topic is “Has our country lived up to Lincoln’s call to support the welfare of its veterans?” You will need to submit your written speech by April 1, 2015 to the CHS Counseling Office.  You will be notified if your speech is accepted by April 8.  If your speech is selected, you will participate in the oral competition at West Ranch High School on April 14, in the Theatre/Auditorium. For more information, see the poster inside the Counseling Office or outside in the display case.

 

THE CHEN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM is focused on helping economically-challenged youth fulfill their dreams of obtaining higher education. Students who meet the criteria may receive one of 10, $2000 renewable scholarships. Applications are due March 31, 2015. Please visit:

THE TAIWANESE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND is offering 14- $2,500 scholarships to students who meet the criteria. Students must be US citizens AND direct blood descendants of a Taiwanese citizen. Applications are due March 31, 2015. Please visit : www.TAScholarshipFund.org
