GENERAL

Halloween Dress Guidelines for Canyon High School

Students are welcome to dress up on October 31st.  However, students must be sure to follow school guidelines regarding this activity.

 

1.  No masks or full-face covering items may be worn.

 

2.  No items may be worn which promote or portray the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco (eg.  No Breaking Bad Costumes)

 

3.  No items may be worn which demean /  insult/ make fun of any person or group based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or political affiliation.

 

4.  Excessively revealing and sexually suggestive costumes will not be allowed.   

 

5.  Weapons, real or fake, are prohibited at school.

 

6.  Outfits that are excessively bloody or glorify violence are not permitted.

 

Please note that the following guidelines are in effect for both the school day and the football game on October 31

 

THERE WILL BE A BOYS GOLF TRYOUT MEETING TODAY at the beginning of lunch in room B-4. Anyone interested in trying out for the boys golf team must attend.

 

TRI M Members---PLEASE return all paperwork for the upcoming field trip by Tuesday, October 28.  Bring signed permission slips to Mrs. Purdy in the A Lecture Hall. 

 

MATH HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS, don't forget to join us for Halloween fun on Tuesday, Oct 28 at lunch in G216

 

IT’S SOCKTOBER - please donate a new pair of socks for a homeless person in the Santa Clarita Valley - socks can be for children or adults, male or female - please bring all donations to Mrs. Parks in A-3.  While this event is sponsored by the DFYIT clubs at all high schools, it is something we need everyone's help with - please consider donating!

 

GOLDEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL will be hosting the 2nd Annual Delta Sigma Theta Sorority African-American College Planning Conference on Saturday, October 25 from 8:00am – 1:30 pm. This event is open to all high school students and their parents, but workshops will focus on the needs of those students in grades 10-12.  The Conference will provide a variety of workshops including Financial Aid and Scholarships, Writing Your Personal Statement, How to Get Into your Dream College and a Recent College Graduate Panel.  The workshops will also be followed by a College Fair focused on southern California colleges and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s). Judge Kevin Ross from America’s Court will be the special Keynote Speaker for this event.  Join us in helping your student plan their future!  Please contact Cherise Moore at [email protected]  to reserve your seat by October 20.

 

MEETINGS

 

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB, YU-GI-OH and Vanguard and other board games meets every Wednesday and Friday in G-117.  Bring your lunch.  Questions, see Mr. Clark in G-117.

 

SENIORS

 

ATTENTION ALL SENIOR BOYS!  Mr. Canyon applications are now up in the ASB Office!  If you think you have what it takes to become the 2014 Mr. Canyon, sign up now!  Applications are due by TODAY with $20 to the ASB Office.

SCHOLARSHIP:

2015 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years up to $40,000 total per recipient.  Go to www.reaganfoundation.org for more info. Be prepared to bring your completed order form and down payment on these days.  DON'T FORGET EVERY SENIOR MUST TURN IN THEIR CAP & GOWN SIZES on these days!
