March in the Wellness Center

Welcome to the month of March! Three more months of school and this academic year comes to a close.

Updates and News from Caring for Cowboys-Canyon Wellness Center:  New in the month of March, Caring 4 Cowboys Wellness Center will be open for parents as well as students.  Every Monday, from 8-10am, the Wellness Center is available for parents and families who might need that extra support or want to call to address certain concerns you might be noticing with your son or daughter at home.

We are here for parents too because we know that together, we are better equipped to help support the development of our children!

The Wellness Center’s Club- Bring Change 2 Mind- plans to host a week-long series of events focused on spreading awareness of the importance of our mental well-being and supporting others’ mental wellness around us.  Each day during the first week of March, the club will spread awareness about different virtues that all students have that can positively make a difference on our campus and in our community!

Monday March 2nd- Cowboys spark CONVERSATION! Starting a conversation around mental health can be transformative! When we talk about mental health, the stigma decreases and no longer holds power over our story and life.  All students can take part in sparking conversation with family or friends who might need support. Students can join us during brunch to spark conversation and learn ways to reach out and check on people that they may be concerned about.

Tuesday March 3rd- Cowboys Spark Hope!    It has been said that memory produces hope in the same way that amnesia produces despair. Amnesia makes us forget about all the good things in our past, the things we love, or ways we have changed for the better. Sometimes when this kind of amnesia gets the better of us, we need reminders of what gives us hope. We need to surround ourselves with loved ones, connect to the things that inspire us, and read all the Upworthy articles. Hope is an action and Cowboys can take part in spreading hope around campus!

Wednesday March 4th- Cowboys Spark Love! The Beatles weren’t wrong when they sang, “all you need is love.” We don’t always get time to think about the things or people we love, and unless we’re being super mindful, we don’t share that love with people directly! Let’s use this day to spark love in the myriad of ways we can. Back by popular demand, students and staff can take part in sending Loving-Kindness Grams to students and staff!

Thursday March 5th- Cowboys Spark Courage! Maya Angelou once said, "Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.” Courage comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes courageous acts come in the form of the smallest gestures like leaving the house when you don't feel like it. Eventually, the small acts build up to help you tackle the bigger things you’re anxious about! Cowboys can join us by taking a photo near the “wings of courage” and by honoring someone in their life that sparks courage!

Throughout the month of March, The Caring for Cowboys-Canyon Wellness Center will continue hosting weekly counseling groups for students.  Reach out if you are interested in being part of the next group starting in April. Canyon Wellness Center will continue having Game Days (Mondays @ Lunch), Dog Therapy Days (Tuesday @ Lunch) as well as Meditation (Mondays @ 7:50am). We will be bringing back Straightening Reins GOATS to campus in addition to miniature horses (Wednesday, March 11th and 25th ).   Come out and join us for our March events and please reach out to us at the Wellness Center if you need any support or need to talk things over!  We are here for you!
