February in the Wellness Center

February:

As we head into the month of February, the iconic month of external love, Caring for Cowboys Wellness Center plans to focus on self-kindness, self-compassion and educating students on the importance of self-love.

In the words of author and poet Rupi Kaur, “How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you”.

Your relationship with yourself is really important and I mean REALLY IMPORTANT. Self-love influences so many aspects of our lives (i.e. your relationships with peers and significant others, the image you project at work and school, and how you cope with the problems in your life). Our relationship with self often dictates the boundaries we set with another, what we allow and don’t allow.  It is so important to your welfare and well-being.

Join us in the Wellness Center in the month of February as we discuss topics of “what is self-love,” “why is it important” and “what actions can I take to increase my own self-love”.

See below for our calendar of events!

In the month of February, we will also be starting our counseling groups.   We will be holding 7-week counseling groups on the topics of “Movement, Mindfulness and De-stressing,” “Launching and Life After High School,” “Anxiety and Learning to Take Control,” and “Teen Issues and Building Communication”.  Students, if you are interested in joining a counseling group- stop by the Wellness Center for more info or scan the QR code.  Parents, if you feel like your son or daughter could benefit from one of our counseling groups, please reach out or scan the QR code to sign up.  Please reach out, call or email me if you have any questions.   I’m here to help any way I can!

Warmly,

Sarah

Participate in our 29 days of Self Love Challenge!  Visit us and learn what self-love is, why it's so important and what actions you can take to increase your own self compassion!

During the week of Vday, Caring 4 Cowboys and Bring Change 2 Mind plan to encourage students to engage in the act of sending loving-kindness to someone who may be in need.  Research shows a multitude of benefits engaging in loving-kindness meditation and our club desires to teach and spread loving-kindness by encouraging all students to participate in sending someone who may be struggling a "Loving-Kindness Gram". Visit the Wellness Center for more info or visit the booth set up by the student store Feb. 10-12th.

We will continue to host Monday Morning Meditation as research continues to show positive benefits of meditating, even for 5 minutes.

We will also be hosting Dog Therapy Day.  Come check out our friendly pups and how much animals can positively alter our mood.

Due to popular demand, SRD ranch and their friendly GOATS will be back on campus in the month of February! Remember, it is not just dogs or humans that release those de-stress hormones.

Every Monday in the Wellness Lawn, we will have outdoor games for anyone interested in a friendly match of corn-hole, chess, Jenga and Frisbee toss.

We will also be continuing our Strides for Wellness Challenge- a 5 week physical fitness challenge educating students on the importance of nutrition; physical activity; rest; and stress reduction in maintaining balance and social-emotional health- throughout the month of February ending on Sunday, February 23rd at the Mardi Gras Madness Race in Valencia. We look forward to racing with all Strides participants and keep up the awesome work!
