October in the Wellness Center

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, National LGBTQ History Month and National Family Month.  The Caring for Cowboys-Canyon Wellness Center is excited to share with you what is planned to recognize these events and on bringing educational awareness and exposure to various skill sets students can utilize and adapt for their own individual well-being.

Life for teenagers is more complicated than most adults give credit for.  Many teens are balancing schoolwork, part-time jobs, sports, an active social life, family expectations and quality family time.  Statistics show that there is higher percentage of teenagers who experience stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts than in the past.  There are many different theories on why this is happening but regardless of the reason, it is vital that teens learn ways to effectively handle stress and anxiety. One tool teens can take with them is learning mindful meditation.   Similarly to working out our physical bodies, we need to "work out" our brains to teach ourselves healthy ways of managing daily stressors and life.  That's why we're hosting Monday Morning Meditation in the Wellness Center! Come join us every Monday, starting October 14, for a guided meditation at 7:50am-7:55am.   Research shows a multitude of benefits in practicing mindfulness in teens!

At the Wellness Center we are all about teaching others adaptive skill sets they can take with them to learn to live a well-balanced life.  As a result, we will be continuing with Yoga Sesh on late start mornings.  Join us for a quick self care sesh before classes start!

Wednesdays in the Wellness Center are all about animals and the emotional benefits animals provide us!  Check out our flyers for more deets on Dog Therapy Days and Farm Animal Pop Up!

We'd like to kick off National Family Month by recognizing our Cowboy family and hosting Game Day @ the Wellness Center.  Every Friday we will be having outdoor games in the Wellness Lawn and games offered in the center. Bring your friends and favorite teacher for some outdoor fall fun!

We will be having a guest speaker join us on October 28th to share with us the impact of LGBTQ History!   Join us in this Wellness Talk and learn to honor National LGBTQ History Month!

Silence Hurts! is our Wellness Talk that we will be hosting at lunch on October 29th. This event will address the impact of bullying and how we can reach out and help when we witness it.
