GENERAL

 

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PART OF THE AMAZING CANYON YEARBOOK STAFF FOR 2016? Yearbook is currently looking to this year's freshman and sophomores to apply. We are looking for students interested in journalism, photography and design to be a part of our team. Please get an application in the counseling office or from Mr. McCann in the T-building. Applications are due this Friday---May 1st-----.

 

ATTENTION SOCIAL STUDIES STUDENTS FOR NEXT YEAR: If you are taking or interested in taking AP Euro, History, Economics or Government, there is a meeting you must attend at lunch on one of the following days - Wednesday, April 29, Thursday April 30th, OR Friday, May 1st.  If you cannot make one of those days, please go see Ms. Cooper in B-8.

 

CANYON CAR SHOW:  Is May 1 at 5:30 BEFORE THE POWDER PUFF GAME~~~~  Food trucks start at 5:30.  To enter a car, get application in front of the ASB Office.  ALL Applications are due Wednesday, April 29th.

 

NISSAN CAR GIVEAWAY – Juniors and Seniors – We are only a week away from finding out which Hart District student will be driving away in a new 2015 Nissan Versa! Will it be you?? Please make sure you have filled out the registration form (available online or in the office) before you come to the event next Tuesday, April 28, at 5 p.m. at the COC football stadium. You'll be checking in at the Canyon High table before entering the stadium. Thousands of dollars in prizes will be given away in many prize drawings, our drumline will be performing, and a Canyon High School student will be recognized for the Nissan Service Award. You won't want to miss this!! See Mrs. Pennay in the AP office for any questions you may have.

 

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN ATTENDING DUKE, HARVARD, GEORGETOWN, PENN, OR STANFORD?  If so, reps will be in LA and Woodland Hills.  For LA, there will be meeting at the Westin Bonaventure, 404 S. Career Technical Education (CTE) & ROP courses offer students career pathways and career exploration leading to industry certification and a foundation to continue on to post secondary career education.  ROP has a variety of courses in healthcare, law and forensics, engineering and advanced technologies, business, education, culinary, graphic design and many more. Whether you plan on pursuing an education at a four year university, a community college or specific technical training.

MATH TUTORING with Mrs. Denny is CANCELED for the next two weeks.  See you May 7th for math tutoring.  Remember tutoring goes from 2:30 until 4 p.m.

SOME STUDENTS TAKE PRE-COLLEGE CLASSES OR PROGRAMS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES.  They can range from a few days to a few weeks.  Some are nearby and some are far.  They range from the arts to science research and everything in between. The student/family pays for these if they are interested and most take students until they are full.  See the list in the Counseling Office.

 

Programs for 2015

·         Occidental College in LA, has several programs including  Adventures of the Mind  (a week-long achievement and leadership mentoring summit bringing together high-potential teens from across the country with accomplished mentors in a variety of fields: artists, astronauts, athletes, economists, engineers, entrepreneurs, inventors, journalists, Nobel laureates, novelists, poets, poker players, programmers, public servants, Pulitzer prize winners, scientists, scholars and tech titans).  Upward Bound assists students who are first-generation college-bound from low-income backgrounds who intend to enroll in and graduate from post-secondary education programs. The OXY Upward Bound Summer Program is an academically intensive, challenging and richly rewarding experience. Participants live on campus in residence halls and enroll in college-preparatory classes in varying subjects for high school credit.  Visit the Occidental website for more info.

SENIORS

 

SENIORS- If you are a student planning on pursuing a career in the performing arts, there is currently a scholarship available in the Counseling Office for you! The Canyon Theater Guild is offering two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. Application deadline is April 30, 2015, so act fast! 

 

THE FIL-AM ASSOCIATION OF SCV, INC. is announcing a search for candidates for the Jose Rizal Scholastic Achievement Award consisting of three scholarships: $1000, $500 & $250. Applicants must be of Filipino descent whose parent(s) reside and/or are employed in the SCV. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and be involved in extracurricular activities in school, community or any of the association's projects or events. If you meet the criteria, please visit the Counseling Office for an application form. The application is due May 15, 2015.
