GENERAL

HEALTH OFFICE:  Should you become ill at school, please let your teacher know so they can send you to the Health Office.  Contact will then be made with your parent/guardian to arrange pick-up.

PLEASE NO TEXTING OR CALLING PARENTS FROM CLASS.

 

TODAY IS "Mix It Up Day!" Join Leadership and ASB in a getting to know you activity during both brunches! Leadership students will be walking around asking people they don't know various questions to mix up our social groups, and work towards our one cohesive Canyon family group!

 

Halloween Dress Guidelines for Canyon High School

Students are welcome to dress up on October 31st.  However, students must be sure to follow school guidelines regarding this activity.

1.  No masks or full-face covering items may be worn.

 

2.  No items may be worn which promote or portray the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco (eg.  No Breaking Bad Costumes)

 

3.  No items may be worn which demean /  insult/ make fun of any person or group based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or political affiliation.

 

4.  Excessively revealing and sexually suggestive costumes will not be allowed.   

 

5.  Weapons, real or fake, are prohibited at school.

 

6.  Outfits that are excessively bloody or glorify violence are not permitted.

 

Please note that the following guidelines are in effect for both the school day and the football game on October 31

 

“EACH DAY 7,000 US high school students drop out--10% of those students report that it is due to bullying-related incidents."
Leadership encourages every student to wear a blue shirt in recognition of bullying awareness as part of anti-bullying month.

 

OPERATION US: We will be at Mint Canyon on Friday November 7th. Permission slips are DUE THIS THURSDAY October 30th at the start of lunch. 

 

CAREER INTERNSHIP:

ROP Career Internship provides students the opportunity to complete an unpaid workplace internship. Students learn hands-on about a career field of their choice allowing them to prepare for their future education and employment.  Career Internship can be a capstone to a career pathway. 

Outcomes for students:

  • Test their learned skills, interests and aptitudes in a particular career
  • Experience direct connection between what is learned in school and what takes place in the workplace
  • Network and connect with professional contacts for professional recommendations and career mentors
  • Gain work experience to add to resume
  • Enhance transcript content

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HONOR CHOIR--Congratulations to Evangeline Nguyen, Muskan Parashar, Robert Rudolph, and Josh Valdes who have been selected to perform in the Southern California Honor Choir.  They were selected from approximately 600 students who auditioned.  Great job!!

 

TRI M Members---PLEASE return all paperwork for the upcoming field trip by TODAY.  Bring signed permission slips to Mrs. Purdy in the A Lecture Hall. 

 

MATH HONOR SOCIETY-- Don't forget to join us for Halloween fun TODAY at lunch in  G-216

 

IT’S SOCKTOBER - please donate a new pair of socks for a homeless person in the Santa Clarita Valley - socks can be for children or adults, male or female - please bring all donations to Mrs. Parks in A-3.  While this event is sponsored by the DFYIT clubs at all high schools, it is something we need everyone's help with - please consider donating!

 

MEETINGS

 

ANIME CLUB:  Come to room K-4 during lunch today and join the Anime Club!  Here we will learn about our favorite stories, learn how to draw Anime, and have a terrific time!  Everyone is welcome!  See you there!

 

STAND UP AND SPEAK UP!  Speak up as meetings every Tuesday at lunch in the “B” Lecture Hall.

 

ECO CHICOS ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB meeting is this Wed 10/29, at lunch in room G-107.

 

CHECKMATES CHESS CLUB, YU-GI-OH and Vanguard and other board games meets every Wednesday and Friday in G-117.  Bring your lunch.  Questions, see Mr. Clark in G-117.

SCHOLARSHIPS

2015 GE-Regan Foundation Scholarship Program:  Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Regan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years up to $40,000 total per recipient.  Go to www.reaganfoundation.org for more info.
